CM Rekha Gupta’s attack on AAP – ‘The previous government left a debt of Rs 47 thousand crore’

digital desk- During the discussion on the budget in the Delhi Assembly, the political atmosphere heated up when Chief Minister Rekha Gupta made a scathing attack on the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government. He alleged that the previous government left a huge debt on Delhi, which the present government has to repay. CM Rekha Gupta said that the opposition is only doing politics of protest instead of giving meaningful suggestions on the budget. He taunted and said that the opposition prefers to sit on the road, while their government is doing better roads and development work in the capital. She said, “I was hoping that the opposition would give constructive suggestions on the budget, but they gave priority to opposition.

AAP government had left a debt of Rs 47000 – CM Rekha Gupta

Speaking on the debt issue, the Chief Minister said that the Aam Aadmi Party government had left behind a debt of Rs 47,000 crore. He claimed that his government is gradually reducing this financial burden and old dues are being cleared. He also clarified that taking loans is not a new thing and this process has continued in the previous governments also. Referring to several projects, Rekha Gupta said that liabilities worth thousands of crores related to expressways, metro and hospitals are the legacy of the previous government. He informed that Rs 9000 crore was pending for metro projects, out of which Rs 2700 crore has been paid by his government. Apart from this, a liability of about Rs 2000 crore still remains on the hospitals.

Attack on the field of education also

The Chief Minister also made serious allegations regarding the education sector. He said that many schools are lying incomplete and their cost has increased up to four times. “A school worth Rs 20 crore is not being completed even with Rs 80 crore, this clearly shows corruption,” he said. He also said that Rs 24 crore for players’ scholarship and Rs 17.5 crore for students’ scholarship were not given by the previous government, which are now being paid by his government. Speaking on EV policy, Rekha Gupta said that the previous government did not make any concrete investment in this sector. He said that his government has released Rs 24 crore out of the budget of Rs 48 crore and work is being progressed rapidly in this direction. Apart from this, Rs 31 crore has also been released under ‘Jai Bhim Yojana’.

The Chief Minister also alleged that there was a loss of about Rs 5000 crore every year during the tenure of the AAP government. He said that many schemes of the Central Government were not implemented only because the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was associated with them. At the end of her address, Rekha Gupta said that her government is not just focusing on free schemes but on concrete development works. “Delhi was left in ruins, but now we are taking it forward in the right direction,” he said.
