CM Rekha Gupta’s statement on Black Emergency Day; ‘Emergency’ should be remembered like Ravana Dahan
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said in a seminar organized on the occasion of ‘Black Emergency Day’ that this day should be celebrated every year, so that the country can be reminded of the Emergency period. In his address, the Chief Minister said that just as the tradition of burning Ravana on Dussehra is followed as a symbol of evil, similarly ‘Constitution Murder Day’ should also be observed every year. He said that this tradition will remind people that injustice like Emergency will never be accepted again in the country.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that burning the effigy of Ravana every year symbolizes the victory of truth over lies and good over evil. CM Gupta said in a program organized on ‘Black Emergency Day’ that ‘Constitution Killing Day’ should also be remembered in the same way, so that the coming generations can get information about this chapter of history and no leader should dare to repeat such incidents. He said in his address, “Similarly, Constitution Killing Day should be remembered so that the coming generations are aware of this chapter of history and no leader should dare to repeat such acts.”
CM Rekha Gupta’s attack on Rahul Gandhi
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta launched a scathing attack on opposition leader Rahul Gandhi at an event organized on ‘Black Emergency Day’. Chief Minister Gupta said, “Democracy is not a slave to those who keep a copy of the Constitution in their pockets and claim that ‘democracy is being murdered’.” He further said that leaders like Jayaprakash Narayan and Atal Bihari Vajpayee never lost courage even in difficult circumstances and kept the spirit of democracy alive. In the program he told that the inspiration of the leaders who struggled to protect the values of democracy is relevant even today. On the occasion, Delhi unit Bharatiya Janata Party also honored 115 ‘democracy fighters’ who were arrested during the Emergency.
Smriti Irani’s attack on Congress
Former Union Minister Smriti Irani made a scathing attack on the Congress party and said that the youth should know what were the conditions in the country during the Emergency. He said that during the Emergency, Congress leaders spread “misunderstanding” from Parliament to the streets and tried to portray themselves as the true protectors of the Constitution. Smriti Irani alleged that an attempt was made to suppress the incidents and alleged atrocities of that period from history, especially the incidents with women were not mentioned enough. Targeting the Congress party Indian National Congress, he said that it is necessary to convey the experiences during the Emergency to the new generation, so that lessons can be learned from history. It is noteworthy that the government led by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had imposed emergency in the country from 25 June 1975 to 21 March 1977.
Harsh Malhotra’s attack on Congress
Delhi BJP President Harsh Malhotra, while making a scathing attack on the Congress party, said that the period of Emergency should be understood by the new generation, which has not seen the circumstances of that time directly. He said that it is important to understand the thinking of the Congress at that time and also to know that those who talk about the Constitution today had once “strangled” it. Malhotra said that the Constitution of India, independent judiciary, free press, active civil society and informed citizens are strong pillars of democracy. He said that all these institutions ensure that no matter how powerful the government is, the final decision in a democracy always lies with the people.
