CM Vijay played chess with Grandmaster Pragyananand, handed over a check of Rs 50 lakh to Norway chess champion
CM Vijay played chess with Praggnanandhaa : Indian Grandmaster R., who created history by winning the title of Norway Chess 2026. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay met Praggnanandha. During this, Chief Minister Vijay played a friendly chess match with Pragyananand. Along with this, he gave a reward of Rs 50 lakh to the Indian Grandmaster on behalf of Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority.

According to the government statement, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister S. Joseph Vijay met Grandmaster R. at the Chief Secretariat today Monday. Praggnananda was handed a check containing a prestigious cash reward of Rs 50 lakh. This was the biggest reward given by Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority. Praggnananda became the first Indian to win the Norway Chess 2026 Series title held in the Norwegian capital Oslo and achieved a historic feat. The Chief Minister also played a game of chess with him.
Let us tell you that R. Praggnanandhaa created history by winning the Norway Chess title. He has become the first Indian to achieve this feat. From brilliant strategy to unwavering composure, this Indian genius has added a golden chapter to the country’s chess legacy. Praggnanandhaa won the top prize of 7,00,000 Norwegian Kroner (NOK), which is equivalent to approximately Rs 70.5 lakh in Indian Rupees, for his historic win in Stavanger.
