CM Vishnudev Sai inaugurated the Oilseed Farmers Fair in Ambikapur, made big announcements regarding farmers.

Ambikapur, Surguja: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai on Saturday inaugurated the two-day state level oilseed farmers fair at Rajmohini Devi Agricultural College and Research Center located in Ambikapur in Surguja district. The main objective of this program is to promote oilseed production in the state and connect farmers with modern technologies.

During the programme, the Chief Minister inspected the stalls set up by various government departments and agricultural institutions. He praised the modern agricultural techniques and measures being given to farmers to increase oilseed production. Also, on the occasion of World Forestry Day, a one year old sapling was also planted in the college campus under the “One Tree in Mother’s Name” campaign and gave the message of planting more and more trees for environmental protection.

Call for self-reliance in oilseed production

Addressing the farmers, Chief Minister Sai said that India is an agricultural country and Chhattisgarh is called the ‘rice bowl’, where about 80 percent of the population is dependent on agriculture. He emphasized that the country has become self-sufficient in food grain production, but is still lagging behind in the matter of oilseeds.

“At present the country is able to produce only about 57 percent of its requirement of oilseeds, the remaining 43 percent has to be imported. To overcome this shortage, we will have to work together.”- Vishnu Dev Sai, Chief Minister

He appealed to the farmers to increase oilseed production by adopting the suggestions of scientists so that the country’s dependence on imports can be reduced.

Big announcements for farmers

The Chief Minister made an important announcement to encourage the farmers. He said that on the lines of Krishak Unnati Yojana, now an incentive amount of Rs 11 thousand per acre will be given for oilseed crops also. This step will motivate farmers to cultivate oilseeds in addition to traditional crops.

Chief Minister Sai also mentioned the achievements of his government. He said that the state government is purchasing paddy from farmers at the rate of 21 quintals per acre at Rs 3100 and the difference amount is also being paid in lump sum. After communicating with the farmers, he also confirmed that the difference amount of paddy will be paid before Holi. Apart from this, he also stressed on increasing the income by adopting allied businesses like animal husbandry, dairy production and fisheries. He said that after the reform in GST, the prices of agricultural equipment have come down, which is directly benefiting the farmers.
