CM Yogi inspected Meerut Sports University, said – it will play an important role in building a developed India

Meerut. The first Major Dhyan Chand State Sports University of Uttar Pradesh will play an important role in giving a new direction to the sports culture in the coming times as well as in building a developed India. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said this during the inspection of the university under construction in Salawa, Meerut on Thursday.

The Chief Minister directed the officials to start academic activities in the university within the stipulated time and make it an institution of high standards. He said that in the last decade, the thinking regarding sports in the country has changed and the government policies have provided better platforms and opportunities to the players.

Talking to journalists, he said that sports infrastructure is being strengthened in the state from village level to district level. Sports leagues in villages, sports competitions involving public representatives and construction of stadiums in districts are steps taken in this direction. The Chief Minister said that it is a matter of pride for the state to establish the country’s first sports university in the name of Major Dhyanchand in Meerut.

During the inspection, it was told that the area of ​​the university campus has been increased to 100 acres and the construction work is being completed in a phased manner. In the new academic session, regular classes will be conducted here and diploma and degree courses related to various sports will be made available. Emphasizing on making the university world class, the Chief Minister pointed out the need for better educational system, experienced faculty and adding former international players as coaches.

He said that this institute will become a major center of sports training in future and similar institutes will be established in other areas also. Referring to the achievements of the players of Western Uttar Pradesh, the Chief Minister said that the state government will also support private sports academies, so that the talents of the state can perform better at the national and international level.

Remember that on January 2, 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid the foundation stone of this first sports university of Uttar Pradesh to be built at a cost of Rs 700 crore. About 80 percent of the building construction work has been completed in the university campus spread over 100 acres, in which a total of one thousand candidates, including 500 women, will be given admission.
