CM Yogi reviewed the preparations for Magh Mela 2026, no VIP protocol on major bathing festivals, gave these instructions to the officials

Magh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh will start from 3 January 2026 and will continue till 15 February 2026. This fair is a symbol of the faith of crores of devotees. It is called a great festival of penance, meditation, restraint and awakening. In Prayagraj, the holy rivers Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati meet, which is called Sangam Beach and Triveni. According to religious beliefs, the water of Sangam is very sacred, bathing in it gives freedom from the sins of previous births.

Let us tell you that on December 26, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath held a review meeting of the preparations for ‘Magh Mela-2026’ to be organized in Prayagraj at his official residence in Lucknow. He wrote on social media platform

There will be no VIP protocol on main bathing festivals

CM Yogi said that this is not just an event of faith, but a living example of India’s eternal tradition, social discipline and administrative efficiency. He gave clear instructions that providing a safe, clean and well-organized environment to the devotees coming from India and abroad is the top priority. He told the Home Department that no VIP protocol should be implemented on major bathing festivals. All concerned departments have been asked to complete preparations by December 31 under all circumstances.

UP government preparing to give a grand look to Magh Mela

Let us tell you that the work of the fair is going on war footing and this event will be given a divine and grand look for the Kalpavasis and devotees. He told that our estimate is that during this one and a half month, 12 to 15 crore devotees can take bath at the Sangam in Prayagraj, which includes the Kalpavasis who take bath every day.

Main Bath Dates

The Chief Minister said that this time the date of Magh Mela is coming 15 days earlier. From January 3 to February 1, lakhs of Kalpavasis will meditate in the Sangam area for a month. The dates of main bathing are as follows-

  • 3 January: Paush Purnima
  • 15 January: makar sankranti
  • 18 January: Mauni Amavasya
  • 23 January: Basant Panchami
  • 1 February: Magh Purnima
  • 15 February: Mahashivratri

Strict security arrangements in the fair

There will be parking arrangements at 42 places for the devotees coming to Magh Mela. To conduct the fair safely, there will be 17 police stations, 42 police posts, 20 fire tenders, seven fire posts and 20 fire monitoring towers, one water police station, one water police control room and four water police sub-control rooms in the area.

Let us tell you that Magh Mela will start on the Sangam banks with Paush Purnima. Saint communities from across the country as well as representatives of the monasteries, temples and akharas of Kashi have started preparing for their respective camps on the banks of the Sangam.
