Lucknow, 19 May. A week before Bakrid in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath gave a strict warning regarding namaz on the streets. Addressing a program, CM Yogi said, “People ask me, ‘Is Namaz offered on the streets in UP?’ I tell them, ‘No, it doesn’t happen like that. Go and see for yourself’… What right does anyone have to block the road?
Everyone should offer their prayers only at their designated place of worship. He asked me, ‘How is this possible?’ We are outnumbered!’ I replied, ‘Then do your prayers in shifts. If your worship space doesn’t have enough space for everyone, arrange your numbers accordingly.
If you want to live together under this system, you have to start following its rules and laws. If you want to offer namaz, do it in shifts – we will not stop you. But, roads are not meant for this purpose, they are for the use of ordinary citizens and the needy – such as the sick… Government rules and regulations apply equally to everyone. We will not allow anarchy to spread on our streets.
If you cooperate peacefully, it is very good; Otherwise, we will adopt other methods. If you are willing to listen to reason and negotiate, fine; But if not, be prepared to face the consequences of confrontation. In Bareilly, some people tried to test our intentions—and they got a clear idea of our strength.”
‘No one is allowed anarchy in UP’
Yogi Adityanath said that one cannot trust even a single sensational news to set it on fire or do anything. We are not at all ready for curfew to be imposed again in UP, riots to start and anyone to be allowed any kind of anarchy. In such a situation, only sensitive reports make the media credible. I congratulate Amar Ujala for its glorious journey of 78 years and has tried to live up to its credibility.
