Now fraudsters will not be able to do tricks, common users are safe from the new telecom rules of 2026
Cyber Fraud India: cyber fraud, fake calls and WhatsApp But there is relief news for mobile users troubled by increasing scams. The Indian government is preparing to implement two big and strict rules related to the telecom sector in the new year i.e. 2026, which can change the way of using mobile phones to a great extent. Once these rules are implemented, not only will it become easier to identify fake calls, but it will also tighten the noose on fraud through messaging apps. It is believed that with these changes the mobile phones of common people will become more secure than before.
Biggest government action on cyber fraud
The government is going to take the biggest step so far to stop cyber fraud and online scams which are increasing rapidly every day in the country. There is every possibility that rules like SIM-Binding and CNAP (Calling Name Presentation) will be implemented in the year 2026. After these rules, the way users receive calls and use messaging apps like WhatsApp will completely change.
What is CNAP and how will it work?
Often scammers pretend to be bank officers or government employees and trap people. CNAP will solve this problem. After this feature is fully implemented, whenever a call comes from an unknown number, the name of the person which is registered in his KYC will appear on the mobile screen.
The special thing is that this feature will work at the network level, that is, it will not require any third-party app. At present, it has been started as a trial in some areas and it is expected that by the beginning of 2026 it will become mandatory in the entire country.
SIM-Binding rule bans WhatsApp scams
The second big step of the government is related to SIM-binding. Cyber criminals often create accounts on WhatsApp or other messaging apps with Indian SIM cards and throw away the SIM. According to the new rule, if the physical SIM from which the app is made is not present in your phone, then that app will stop working.
This will make it easier to catch criminals who misuse Indian numbers while sitting abroad. The Department of Telecommunications has given a deadline of 90 days to the companies for this, which will be fully implemented by 2026.
