Coffee exports from India increased by 55 percent due to increase in global demand.

NEW DELHI New Delhi: With a surge in global demand for Indian coffee, the country has exported coffee worth Rs 7,771.88 crore in the first half of the current financial year (FY25), up from Rs 4,956 crore in the same period last fiscal. This surge reflects the growing global demand for Indian coffee and is an important moment for the country's agriculture sector.

For the April-September period, the country exported 2.2 lakh tonnes of coffee, up 15 per cent from 1.91 lakh tonnes in the same period last year, according to the latest data from the Coffee Board of India. Coffee buyers are paying an average of Rs 352 per kg for Indian coffee, up from Rs 259 per kg earlier.

Among the countries exporting Indian coffee, Italy tops the chart with 20 per cent of total exports. Germany, Russia, UAE and Belgium collectively import 45 per cent of Indian coffee. Coffee production in India was about 3.6 lakh metric tonnes in the crop year 2023-24.

During 2021-22, Indian coffee exports stood at $1.016 billion, an increase of 38 percent over the previous year 2020-21. In 2021-22, India was the fifth largest exporter of coffee in the world, with about 6 per cent share in global coffee exports. Karnataka accounts for about 70 percent of India's coffee production. Kerala contributes 20 percent of India's coffee production, making it the second largest coffee producing state in the country. Tamil Nadu is in third place with 5.7 percent share. The coffee export market has been a major driver of the country's coffee industry.
