Cold wave and fog in Delhi-NCR, red alert of heavy rain in 4 states; Frozen Dal Lake in Kashmir

At the same time, a deep depression formed over the south-west Bay of Bengal is giving a new twist to the weather. Its impact is going to be on South India, where there is every possibility of heavy rain in the next few days. On the other hand, there will be severe winter, cold wave and dense fog in North and Central India. According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), there will be very dense fog in the morning in North-West India and Bihar for the next 5-7 days.
Similarly, parts of Central India, Northeast India, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim will remain under blanket of fog for the next 2-3 days. Cold wave conditions will prevail in selected areas of Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh in the next 2-3 days, that is, there will be cold throughout the day. Cold wave will prevail in Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Odisha and some parts of North Interior Karnataka on January 10-11. Whereas in Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Bihar on January 10, this cold wind will continue to haunt people in Rajasthan till January 11-14. Amidst all this, travelers will have to be careful, because fog and cold can increase road accidents.
Red alert of heavy rain in 4 states
The Meteorological Department has issued a warning that due to the deep depression formed over the south-west Bay of Bengal, heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur in many districts of Arunachal Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka on January 9 and 10. This trend may continue at some places on January 11 also. The rain can be so heavy that it creates a flood-like situation, hence farmer brothers and villagers should take measures to protect the crops. Fishermen have been given strict instructions not to venture into the Bay of Bengal and surrounding sea areas, as high waves and stormy winds can pose a danger.
How will it be in Delhi-NCR?
Cold wave will continue in the coming days in Delhi and surrounding areas of NCR. According to IMD’s forecast bulletin, there is no possibility of the cold weakening in parts of North and North-West India. The coldest morning of this winter was recorded in Delhi on Friday, where the minimum temperature dropped to a record low. Light rain also occurred in many corners of the city, due to which the roads became slippery. Even today there will be an effect of cold and fog, so wear warm clothes and go out.
Uttar Pradesh weather
Residents of Uttar Pradesh are expected to get some respite from the harsh cold and dense fog in the next two days. According to IMD, due to sunshine the fog cover will become thinner and there will be some reduction in cold. However, light drizzle may also occur in many districts, which will make the weather cooler. This will provide relief from the effects of western disturbance, but there will be light fog in Lucknow and surrounding areas in the morning and evening. People will have to be cautious, especially the drivers.
Terror of cold wave and fog continues in Bihar
Cold wave and dense fog will continue to wreak havoc in Bihar for the next few days. The Meteorological Department has predicted cold wave i.e. cold conditions throughout the day in some parts of the state on January 10 and 11. The day temperature will go much below normal, making it difficult to go out. In rural areas, cold has started damaging crops also.
Severe cold in Kashmir valley, Dal lake freezes
Cold has now created a stir in Kashmir. The temperature dropped several degrees below the freezing point, recording Srinagar’s coldest night this winter. On Friday, some parts of the local Dal Lake completely froze, which is a center of attraction for tourists. The valley is currently going through the toughest phase of ‘Chilla-e-Kalan’, which will start from 21 December 2025 and continue till 29 January 2026. The probability of snowfall is highest. IMD said that the weather will remain mostly dry till January 21, but the sky will be cloudy. The nights will be colder till January 10, after which there may be a slight increase in temperature by 1-2 degrees. Urban Kashmiris are being advised to stay indoors and maintain warmth.
