From Delhi-NCR to Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Rajasthan, severe cold, dense fog and cold wave are increasing the problems of people. The Indian Meteorological Department has warned that this cold wave may intensify further in the coming days, due to which life, traffic and daily activities are likely to be affected. In such a situation, the weather has emerged as a big challenge for North India in the very first week of the new year.
The outbreak of cold is continuously increasing in entire North India including Delhi-NCR. Due to snowfall in the hilly areas, cold winds are reaching the plains, due to which the normal life is clearly being affected.

How will be the weather in Delhi today?
The Meteorological Department says that Delhi may remain cloudy throughout the day today and moderate to dense fog will be seen in many areas in the morning. The minimum temperature may drop by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature will also remain much below normal.
How will be the weather today in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar?
The effect of cold and fog will also continue in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, due to which visibility may be reduced and road, rail and air traffic is likely to be affected. People have been advised to remain alert in view of the possibility of further increase in cold in the coming days.
There is a possibility of dense fog in both western and eastern parts of Uttar Pradesh. Cold day warning has been issued in many districts. Along with the drop in temperature, the day will also remain cold. Farmers have been advised to protect crops from frost, while drivers will need to take extra caution due to fog.
The effect of cold is going to intensify in Bihar also. Dense fog may occur in many districts in the morning and cold day like conditions may occur in some areas. Children, elderly and sick people have been especially advised to be careful.

How will the weather be in Himachal, Jammu-Kashmir and Uttarakhand?
There are chances of light rain and snowfall in the hilly states of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. At the same time, dense fog may persist in many states including Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Odisha for the coming days. There is a possibility of rain with thunder in some parts of South India.
How will be the weather in Rajasthan today?
The weather in Rajasthan has shown even more severity. Cold has increased in many districts due to hailstorm and rain. One person has died due to lightning in Churu district. Rain and fog have increased the problems of people in Bikaner, Ajmer, Chittorgarh and surrounding areas. Flight and train services have also been affected at some places.
Why is it so cold in Delhi and North India?
According to weather experts, at present there is a cyclonic circulation in the upper air over North Pakistan and its surrounding areas. Besides this, low pressure conditions in the middle and upper atmosphere and strong westerly jet stream are passing over North India. This is the reason why the chill has increased in entire North India including Delhi-NCR and cold winds are blowing continuously.
