Committed to implement ‘caste census’ : Rahul Gandhi

Hyderabad, November 5: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi reaffirmed his commitment to implementing a caste census in Telangana, emphasizing the state’s potential to set an example for the rest of India.

Speaking at a Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) gathering here, Rahul Gandhi highlighted the caste survey, scheduled to begin on November 6 in Telengana, as a critical step in identifying the extent and nature of social discrimination.

“The caste census is not just a survey; it’s the beginning of addressing discrimination,” Gandhi stated, expressing his intent to make Telangana a pioneer in this initiative nationwide.

He also criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi, questioning why the PM has not endorsed a caste census to understand representation of Dalits, Other Backward Classes (OBCs), and Adivasis in sectors like corporates, judiciary, and media.

“Why is the PM afraid of assessing representation? We need transparency on how these communities are represented,” Gandhi remarked, underscoring the significance of the census in promoting inclusivity and accountability.
