Complaint of fraud against actor Kunal Khemu and his father, court seeks reply from police
Mumbai. A Mumbai court has sought response from the police on the complaint of alleged cheating and criminal breach of trust filed against Bollywood actor Kunal Khemu and his father Ravi Khemu. First Class Judicial Magistrate (Andheri Court) Sujit Kumar C. Tayde, in an order passed on December 29, said that while taking cognizance of the case as per Section 175 (3) of the Indian Civil Defense Code, it is necessary to consider the statement of the police officer concerned at the time.
He then issued a notice to the in-charge of Amboli police station in Mumbai to present his side in the case. Filmmaker Ravi Durga Prasad Aggarwal has accused the father-son duo of cheating, criminal breach of trust and criminal intimidation over a nearly two-decade-old film project.
Aggarwal, in his complaint filed through advocate Vedika Chaubey, said he was producing a Hindi film titled ‘Overtake’ and had approached Kunal Kemmu to play the lead role. According to the complaint, after proper discussion, conversation and listening to the story of the film, Kunal Khemu agreed to work in that film.
According to Aggarwal, after getting assurance from Kunal Khemu and his father, the actor was paid Rs 21 lakh as advance. The producer alleged that the accused father-son duo did not fulfill their promise despite taking the advance amount and both demanded additional money, due to which he suffered huge losses in the business. Aggarwal had earlier moved the court in 2014, but the case was dismissed in 2017.
He said in the new complaint that a “new cause of action” has arisen after attempts at a settlement failed and new threats were made by the accused. According to the complaint, Aggarwal had lodged a written complaint at Amboli police station in January 2024, but till date no action has been taken on it. Aggarwal has appealed to the court to direct the police to register an FIR and investigate the matter.
