Concern about Covid increased again in the world, BA.3.2 variant spread in 23 countries, danger less in India at present

digital desk- The cases of Corona virus may have reduced considerably, but once again the concern about Covid has started increasing across the world. The BA.3.2 variant of SARS-CoV-2 seems to be gradually spreading in many countries including America. According to health experts, this variant has so far been reported in 23 countries, due to which vigilance has been increased at the global level. According to CDC, America’s leading health organization, this variant is being tracked through the traveler-based genomic surveillance program. As of March 2026, this variant has been found in 6 international travelers in the US and more than two dozen patients in 29 states. Experts believe that its cases may increase further in the coming days.

Came to light in South Africa two years ago

The BA.3.2 variant first appeared in South Africa about two years ago. At that time its cases had gradually reduced, but now this variant seems to be active once again. The biggest concern regarding this variant is the changes in its structure. According to scientists, there have been about 75 mutations in its spike protein, which enable it to constantly change and adapt to new conditions. Experts say that due to having so many mutations, this variant has the ability to dodge the body’s immunity. This may increase the risk of infection and is also expected to affect the effectiveness of the vaccine. However, so far it is a matter of relief that serious symptoms have not been seen in patients infected with this variant. In most of the cases, only mild symptoms have been reported, but its speed of spread i.e. transmission rate is said to be high.

The effect of the variant has been seen in Europe also

The effect of this variant has already been seen in Europe also. Last year, cases of BA.3.2 increased rapidly in many European countries. This variant accounted for about 35 percent of the total Covid cases. Its cases were reported in countries like Denmark and the Netherlands, although the symptoms were mild there too. In the context of India, the situation is currently said to be under control. According to epidemiologist Dr Jugul Kishore, no official case of this variant has been reported in India so far. He said that most of the population in the country has been vaccinated and currently the symptoms of Covid are similar to normal flu. In such a situation, there is no need to panic. Dr. Kishore also clarified that this variant is not new, but has already appeared before, hence a lot of information is available about its nature. However, he also advised that people should remain alert and take necessary precautions.
