Instagram troubled by the increasing threat of AI, differentiating between real and fake content becomes a big challenge

Adam Mosseri AI Warning: The world of social media is changing rapidly and Artificial Intelligence (AI) has deepened this change even further. The increasing influence of AI has increased the concern of Instagram head Adam Mosseri. He believes that because of AI, it has become more difficult than ever to differentiate between real and fake content on the platform. Not only this, he has also warned the users that the era of perfect and polished photos is almost coming to an end.

Instagram’s authenticity in danger from AI

Adam Mosseri has admitted that in this era of changing technology, maintaining the distinction between real and fake content has become the biggest challenge for Instagram. According to him, with the help of Artificial Intelligence, it has now become very easy to copy any person, photo or video. This is having a direct impact on the authenticity of the platform and the trust of the users may also waver.

Meta helpless in front of AI?

In his New Year post, Adam Mosseri made a shocking revelation. He admitted that it is becoming difficult day by day to recognize photos and videos created by AI. Interestingly, while Meta is spending billions of dollars to make AI more advanced, Instagram itself is not able to completely identify fake content. Mosseri clearly said that in the current situation, it is very challenging to capture 100% content created by AI.

Identifying the original is easier than spotting a fake.

Adam Mosseri also gave an important suggestion regarding the solution to this problem. He said that instead of catching fake content, identifying genuine media can be a more effective method. In this direction, he has appealed to the camera companies to add digital signature to the photos while clicking them. This will enable us to know whether the photo has been taken from a real camera or is a fake image created by AI.

Is the era of perfect feed coming to an end?

Till now Instagram has been known for perfect and filtered images, but Mosseri says that this trend is now slowly ending. In this age of AI, people are now relying more on raw and unfiltered content instead of polished images. He believes that in the coming time, the dominance of synthetic i.e. AI generated content on Instagram feed may increase. In view of this challenge, Instagram is now working on AI content labeling and giving better ranking to original content, so that user trust and credibility of the platform is maintained.
