Confidence dip? Irfan Pathan suggests two-day reset for Chakaravarthy

While India national cricket team booked their place in the final with a thrilling seven-run win over England national cricket team at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday, former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan believes the team management must now focus on rebuilding the confidence of mystery spinner Varun Chakaravarthy.

Chakaravarthy began the tournament in impressive fashion, claiming nine wickets in his first four matches. However, since the Super 8 stage, his form has dipped. In the four games he has played during this phase, he has picked up only four wickets while conceding runs at an economy rate of 11.63.

Pathan feels the spinner’s confidence may be taking a hit and suggested an unconventional approach to help him regain his rhythm ahead of the final against New Zealand national cricket team.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Pathan said that if he were part of the team management, he would actually keep Chakaravarthy away from practice sessions for the next couple of days and allow him to switch off mentally before the big game.

According to Pathan, constant practice might not necessarily help at this stage. Instead, he believes a short mental break could help the Tamil Nadu spinner reset and return with a clearer mindset.

Pathan also pointed out that Chakaravarthy seems to be working on short deliveries in practice, which is not his primary strength, suggesting that the current approach may not be helping his confidence.

India will face New Zealand in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday. While New Zealand are chasing their first T20 World Cup title, India have the opportunity to script history by becoming the first team to win the tournament three times and the first to claim back-to-back titles.
