Confluence of diplomacy and culture in Gujarat, PM Modi and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz flew kites
Tezzbuzz Desk- Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on Gujarat tour these days. Meanwhile, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz also reached India on Monday morning. As soon as he reached India, he met PM Modi in Ahmedabad. After this, both the leaders jointly inaugurated the International Kite Festival 2026 at Sabarmati Riverfront and gave the message of India-Germany friendship by flying kites together.
Kite players from all over the world participated in this grand kite festival organized in Ahmedabad. 135 international kite flyers from around 50 countries have participated in this event, including participants from countries like Chile, Colombia and South Korea.
The special feature of the festival was that kites were flown even at night. Colorful kites decorated with LED lights were seen presenting a wonderful sight in the sky. This international kite festival will run for seven days and will showcase the cultural identity of Gujarat to the world.
Before the Kite Festival, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz visited Sabarmati Ashram. Both the leaders paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi by offering flowers at his statue. After visiting the ashram, Frederick Merz also recorded his thoughts in the guest book.
He wrote that Mahatma Gandhi’s concept of non-violence, his unwavering belief in the power of freedom and faith in the dignity of every individual still inspire the entire world. Marz also said that Gandhi’s thinking promotes justice and dialogue and instills hope globally. Today, Gandhi’s ideals are more relevant than ever.
Amidst the global tension, this visit of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz to India is considered very important. He has come to India on a two-day visit. After Ahmedabad, he will hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Gandhinagar.
In this meeting, there will be discussion on strengthening trade, technology and energy cooperation between India and Germany. Apart from this, possible deals related to defense cooperation and green hydrogen will also be discussed. It is believed that this visit will give a new direction to India-Germany strategic partnership.
