Bengal Elections: Congress released the list of 284 candidates, fielded this veteran against Mamata
Congress Candidate List Bengal: Congress has released the first list of its candidates for the West Bengal Assembly elections 2026. The party has tried to make the contest interesting by fielding Pradeep Prasad from Bhawanipur seat against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Whereas former state president Adhir Ranjan Choudhary himself will take the responsibility of the party’s comeback by entering the electoral fray. He will contest from Baharampur seat.
Apart from this, former MP Mausam Noor has been made the candidate from Maltipur seat. Congress is contesting alone on 294 assembly seats in the West Bengal assembly elections and the party has announced the names of 284 candidates in one go.

Congress has also fielded Madhav Rai from Darjeeling, Abdul Hannan from Sujapur, Sushmita Biswas from Dumdum, Gautam Bhattacharya from Diamond Harbour, Souvik Mukherjee from Asansol South and Prosenjit Puitandi from Asansol North. The party is focusing especially on its traditional strongholds like Murshidabad and Malda. Congress has fielded its senior leader and former state president Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary as its candidate from his traditional Baharampur assembly seat.

Candidates selected after the meeting
The Central Election Committee of the Congress held a meeting on Saturday to select the party’s candidates for the Bengal elections. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Congress Organization General Secretary KC Venugopal and leaders of West Bengal attended the meeting. Former West Bengal Pradesh Congress president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and CEC members Ambika Soni, Madhusudan Mistry, Salman Khurshid, TS Singhdev, PL Punia and some other leaders also attended the meeting.

Focus on areas like Malda and Murshidabad
This candidate selection of Congress is being considered as part of the strategy to strengthen its hold especially in areas like Malda and Murshidabad where the party has traditionally been strong. Congress is preparing to perform better in the elections by fielding influential faces in these areas.
