Guwahati, 20 November (HS). Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that Congress leaders are criticizing poet Ravindra Nath Tagore. He said that the name of Karimganj was given by Shribhoomi Rabindranath Tagore and not by me (Chief Minister). The Chief Minister was talking to journalists after participating in a program today.
The Chief Minister said that he can criticize me, but why is he criticizing Ravindra Nath Tagore. He said that the name which has nothing to do with Assam, should have been changed long ago.
It is noteworthy that in the Assam Cabinet meeting held on Tuesday, it was decided to change the name of Karimganj district to Shribhoomi. Leaders of the opposition party Congress are saying various things regarding this name change. Today, in response to a question asked to the Chief Minister in this regard, he justified the name change.
