Postpone the date of upcoming assembly by-election in Punjab, Congress leader Pratap Singh Bajwa requested the Election Commission

Chandigarh: Assembly by-elections are going to be held in Punjab next month on 13 November. Senior Congress leader Pratap Singh Bajwa has written a letter to the Election Commission regarding this. He has demanded that the assembly by-election to be held in Punjab on 13th November be postponed to 15th November in view of the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev.

The leader of opposition in the Punjab Assembly said that this festival is celebrated here for three days and it will start from November 13. He said that this celebration could have an impact on voting. Voting for by-elections in four assembly seats in Punjab, Dera Baba Nanak, Barnala, Chhabbewal (reserved) and Giddarbaha, will be held on November 13 and the counting of votes will take place on November 23.

The festival is celebrated for three days

Pratap Singh Bajwa said, “As the country knows, Punjab is preparing to celebrate the birth anniversary of the founder of Sikhism, Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji on November 15. “This auspicious occasion holds immense significance not only for the Sikh community, but also for Hindus and other religious groups who hold Guru Nanak Dev Ji in the highest regard for his universal message of peace, equality and spiritual enlightenment.”

In Punjab, the festival is celebrated for three days, starting with 'Akhand Path' (continuous recitation of Guru Granth Sahib) on 13 November. “Held in thousands of Gurudwaras across the state and country, these sacred ceremonies are attended by a large number of people and involve wide community participation,” the Congress leader said. “People also perform similar rituals in their homes, leading to widespread participation in religious and spiritual activities.”

Effect may be visible in elections

Expressing the possibility of problems in the elections, he said, “Naturally, this engagement in religious rituals may impact voting and voter participation in the electoral process.”

It is a place of pilgrimage.

Request made to Election Commission

Bajwa, MLA from Qadian, said, “In view of this deep cultural and spiritual partnership, I respectfully request the Election Commission to consider holding the elections after November 15. “Doing so will not only respect the religious sentiments of millions of people, but will also ensure full and free participation in this important democratic exercise.”
