Big announcement by Congress, first list of 42 candidates released for Assam Assembly elections, Gaurav Gogoi gets ticket
Congress Candidate List: Congress has released its first list for the Assam Assembly elections 2026, through this list the party has fielded 42 of its candidates. All India Congress Committee has released this list on social media. The name of Congress President Gaurav Gogoi is also included in this list, the party has fielded him from Jorhat assembly seat.
In this list, Tanjeel Hussain, son of MP Rakibul Hussain, has been given ticket from Samaguri. While MP Pradyut Bordoloi’s son Prateek has been given the ticket from Margherita. It is noteworthy that in this list, Congress has not announced any candidate from the seat of CM Himanta Biswa Sarma.
This name included in the first list of Congress
The first list of Congress is considered very important. Apart from Gaurav Gogoi, names of sons of two MPs are also in this list. Apart from this, Congress is claiming that it has a strong hold in at least 46 assembly constituencies in Assam.

It is clearly visible in the list that Congress has given a chance to new faces while maintaining a good equation. These candidates have been selected from various regions, including both Upper and Lower Assam. Along with experienced leaders, youth and women candidates have also been given place in the list, which reflects the diversity strategy of the party.

Political activity intensifies in Assam
Political activity has intensified on 126 assembly seats of Assam, in 2021 the BJP led alliance had won the majority but now Congress is working rapidly on the comeback strategy. Under the leadership of Gaurav Gogoi, the party is giving prominence to ethnic, linguistic and social issues. On the other hand, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is already active. Congress has called it a step towards organizational strength and opposition unity.
