digital desk- In a press conference held in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh Congress President Ajay Rai made a scathing attack on the Central Government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the issue of women’s respect. She alleged that the Prime Minister is “just lying” about women’s reservation and women’s empowerment and is not actually serious about women’s rights. Ajay Rai said that the Congress Party has always worked for the respect and empowerment of women. He claimed that during the Congress rule, many concrete steps were taken to advance women politically and socially. On the contrary, he accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of “confusing and using” women.

Challenge given to BJP during press conference

During the press conference, Ajay Rai challenged BJP and said that the party should tell how much representation it has given to any woman in top positions like Deputy Chief Minister, Prime Minister or National President. He said that BJP only uses women’s issues for political gains, while not making concrete efforts for real empowerment. Referring to the ‘Nari Nyaya’ scheme, Ajay Rai said that Congress had presented a clear roadmap for women during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, in which it was said to work towards implementing women’s rights on a large scale by 2029. He called it an example of Congress’s commitment.

How can a person who could not respect his wife talk about respecting women – Ajay Rai

Making personal comment on the Prime Minister, Ajay Rai said that how can a person who could not give proper place to his wife talk about respect for women. He alleged that since 2007, till several elections, the Prime Minister had not mentioned his wife in his affidavit. During the Varanasi elections in 2014, the mention of his wife Jashodaben came up, after which the issue was discussed. Ajay Rai also said that at the time of the death of the Prime Minister’s mother, his wife wanted to pay her last respects, but she was not allowed. Linking this matter to women’s respect, he said that this is a sensitive issue, which should be answered.

Questions raised on CM Yogi’s statement also

Along with this, he also raised questions on a statement of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and said that there should be no politics on the honor of women. Ajay Rai demanded that the Prime Minister’s wife be officially given her rights and respect. The Congress leader reiterated that Congress has done the most for the rights and respect of women. He said that the party will keep women empowerment as its priority in the coming times and will raise this issue strongly among the public.
