According to government data released on Monday, retail inflation increased to 4.38 percent in June. The main reason for this was the cost of food items, due to which the rate of increase in prices went above the average target of 4 percent of the Reserve Bank. This is the first time that retail inflation under the new series has gone above the 4 percent level. This new series came into effect from January this year. Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh cornered the Modi government on Tuesday regarding this.

This is the real essence of 12 years of Modi government: a flood of false promises and a brutal attack on the people of inflation and unemployment!
In the 12 years of Modi government, inflation has spoiled the budget of common families. Now the government figures themselves are also showing that retail inflation has reached the highest level of 17 months at 4.38% in June… pic.twitter.com/ylpgVlfbbt

The Congress MP further wrote, “Along with inflation, there is now a fear of banks increasing interest rates, due to which the burden of house and car EMIs on the middle class may also increase. Why are the profits in the pockets of the capitalists and the burden on the backs of the common people? When will Prime Minister Modi, the protector of the capitalists, speak on the pain of the common people?”
