Congress releases second list of candidates for Assam elections, announces 23 candidates

Congress has intensified its preparations for the Assam assembly elections. In this sequence, the party released the second list of candidates on Saturday, in which the names of a total of 23 candidates have been announced. Earlier, Congress had announced 42 candidates in the first list. With the new list, till now the party has announced its candidates for a total of 65 seats.

Karthik Chandra Rai became the candidate from Golakganj seat.

In the second list, Karthik Chandra Rai has been made the candidate from Golakganj seat of Dhubri district, while Wajed Ali Chaudhary has been given the ticket from Birsing Jarua. Amrit Badshah has been fielded from Bilasipara and Mohibur Rahman has been fielded from Mankachar. Abul Kalam Rashid Alam has been made the candidate from Goalpara East. Whereas, Kishore Kumar Brahma has got the ticket from Dudhnai seat reserved for Scheduled Tribe.

The party has nominated Nurul Islam from Srijangram seat and Abdul Khaliq from Mandia. Rakibuddin Ahmed will contest from Chamaria, while Pranjeet Chaudhary has been given a chance from Rangia seat. Kishore Kumar Barua has got the ticket from Dimoria (SC) seat and Santanu Bora has got the ticket from New Guwahati. Rijumoni Talukdar has been made the candidate from Mangaldai seat.

David Phukan made candidate from Tinsukia

Jhambha Chaudhary has been fielded from Hojai and Batash Urang from Dhekiajuli. Kartik Chandra Kurmi has been given ticket from Rangapara seat, Dr. Shankar Jyoti Kutum from Gohpur and Sailen Sonowal has been given ticket from Dhemaji (ST) seat. David Phukan from Tinsukia and Bipul Gogoi from Tingkhong will be the Congress candidates. Sagorika Bora from Dergaon, Dhrubjyoti Purkayastha from Dholai (SC) and Aminur Rashid Chaudhary from Karimganj South have also been made candidates.

Apart from this, keeping in mind the alliance strategy, Congress has left some seats for its allies. These include Bhawanipur-Sorbhog, Bajali, Palasbari, Guwahati Central, Goreshwar, Morigaon and Berhampur seats. Congress has so far left a total of 15 seats for its allies.

The party says that the candidates have been selected keeping in mind the election strategy and regional equations. In the coming days, the party may announce its candidates on the remaining seats also.
