Congress senior observers of Assam, TN, WB to meet leaders, to discuss poll alliances and poll strategy

New Delhi: Even as the Congress has announced screening committee and senior observers for the poll bound states, the party leadership is all set to hold meetings with the senior observers of different states in the coming days, sources said on Monday.

According to party insiders, the Congress leadership is all set to meet with the senior observers of different states in the coming days to chalk out the strategy.

Party insiders said that the senior observers of Assam will be meeting first with the party leadership on January 16 at 3 p.m. at the new party headquarters Indira Bhawan here.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi will also be present at the meeting.

Party has named Chhattisgarh’s former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, senior party leaders Bandhu Tirkey as the senior observer for Assam.

The insider said that all the three leaders will be arriving in the national capital on January 15 and then meet the party leadership on January 16.

Similarly, the party leadership will be meeting the senior observers of West Bengal on January 17 and the senior observers of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on January 18.

While the dates for Kerala senior observers meeting is yet to be announced.

Party sources said that besides the poll strategy, the party leaders will also discuss the alliance factor in these states.

The source said that in Assam, the Congress has already announced that it is talks with the several of the opposition parties in the state.

It is in talks with parties such as the Raijor Dal, Assam Jatiya Parishad, the Communist Party of India, and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) for an alliance for the 2026 polls.

Meanwhile, in case of West Bengal, the Congress party is yet to call whether it will go with the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress or it will go with its old traditional ally Left parties.

While in the case of Tamil Nadu, despite demands from the several party leaders to have a lo ower share in the southern state with the DMK, with whom it has been in alliance for more than two decades. However, many party leaders have also echoed to have alliance with the actor turned politician Vijay’s TVK.

The source said that the number of seats the party plans to contest and with which party it will form alliance will be discussed during the meeting of senior observers with the party leadership.
