Congress targets PM Modi’s address in Knesset – ‘India’s moral prestige has fallen’
New Delhi26 February. Congress has targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his address in the Israeli Parliament, Knesset. The party says PM Modi’s speech was an ‘open defense’ of his host, Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu. Criticizing the Prime Minister, Congress even said that he has lowered the moral prestige of India.

Congress MP and party general secretary Jairam Ramesh, while sharing the letters of former Prime Ministers Jawahar Lal Nehru and Albert Einstein on the issue of Israel’s establishment, has written on X, ‘During his address in the Knesset yesterday, there was an open defense of his host (Benjamin Netanyahu). Prime Minister Modi drew attention to the fact that on the day he was born, India recognized Israel as a new nation.

Shared the letter of Nehru and Albert Einstein
Jairam Ramesh further said that ‘Actually, on June 13, 1947, Albert Einstein had written a letter to Jawaharlal Nehru regarding the establishment of Israel. Nehru replied to Einstein a month later. On November 5, 1949, the two met at Einstein’s home in Princeton. In November 1952, Einstein was offered the post of President of Israel, but he declined.

Accused of lowering the moral reputation of India
Jairam Ramesh later retweeted another tweet and strongly attacked PM Modi. Actually, a Twitter handle commented on an article by an Israeli activist, in which PM Modi’s address was criticized. On this, Jairam Ramesh wrote in his response, ‘Ete Mack is a well-known Israeli lawyer and courageous human rights activist. They have exposed the hypocrisy of the Prime Minister’s much-praised (in the media) speech in the Knesset yesterday, which has lowered India’s moral standing.
Israel was recognized on September 17, 1950
India and Israel are today a strong strategic partner. India gave official recognition to Israel only on September 17, 1950. However, full diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in 1992, after which regular embassies were opened in place of immigration offices, trade offices and consulates.
