Congress’s allegation – Budget session extended to influence the election results of Bengal and Tamil Nadu.
New Delhi, 3 April. Congress has alleged that the government has extended the duration of the budget session of Parliament and called a ‘special session’ to influence the results of the assembly elections in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu and to gain electoral advantage, which is a gross violation of the election code of conduct.
Haste in the delimitation process will have ‘dangerous’ consequences
Party general secretary Jairam Ramesh, speaking to the media on Friday, stressed that rushing the delimitation process would have ‘dangerous’ consequences and ‘we do not want any change in the comparative difference in the number of Lok Sabha seats at the state level. It has also been learned that the number of Lok Sabha seats will be increased proportionately by 50 percent and if this happens, the small states of South, West and North-East India will be at a loss.
PM Modi wants to take credit again by amending the Women’s Reservation Act
Jairam Ramesh also claimed that the government has woken up on the issue of women’s reservation after 30 months and Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants to take credit again by amending the Women’s Reservation Act. He also said that the government took the unilateral decision of delimitation along with amendment in Nari Shakti Vandan Act, while there was no discussion with the opposition regarding this.

The next meetings of both the houses of Parliament will be from 16-18 April.
It is noteworthy that the current budget session of Parliament was extended on Thursday to pass the Women’s Reservation Bill and now the next meeting of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha will be held on April 16. A three-day meeting of both the houses can be held between 16 and 18 April. As per the predetermined schedule, the current budget session of Parliament was to conclude on Thursday, April 2.
A request was made to call an all-party meeting after the assembly elections.
Referring to the correspondence between the opposition and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, Congress General Secretary Ramesh said that the government was requested to call an all-party meeting after the completion of the assembly elections on April 29, but the government had made up its mind that a ‘special session’ would be called and in such a situation, a unilateral decision was taken that a ‘special session’ would be called before the assembly elections of West Bengal and Tamil Nadu and at the time when the code of conduct was in force.
This special session is also regarding delimitation
He said, ‘It has also been learned that this special session is not only about the Women’s Reservation Act, but also about delimitation, whereas there was no talk about delimitation earlier. He said, ‘The Nari Shakti Act was passed by calling a special session in 2023 and it was said that women’s reservation will be implemented after census and delimitation. At that time Kharge ji had said that women’s reservation can be implemented immediately. In this way, the government slept for 30 months and now it is saying that it will be implemented before the new census because the census will take three-four years.
It is absolutely wrong to say that the census will take 3-4 years.
Citing a statement of Census Commissioner Mrityunjay Kumar, Ramesh said that it is absolutely wrong to say that the census will take three-four years because the maximum figures will be received in 2027. He alleged that this ‘special session’ has been called to take electoral advantage and influence the assembly election results of West Bengal and Tamil Nadu.
The Congress leader said, ‘This is the election season, in which the Prime Minister will take the credit that I will implement women’s reservation from the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. He alleged that this is a violation of the election code of conduct. It is noteworthy that assembly elections are to be held in two phases in West Bengal on 23rd and 29th April and in Tamil Nadu on 23rd April.
Soon a meeting of Congress and opposition leaders will be called.
Ramesh also said that a meeting of Congress leaders and then a meeting of opposition leaders will be called after a few days regarding this session. He emphasized that the opposition is united.
