Conspiracy to defame judiciary in NCERT book? PM Modi turned red with anger
New Delhi: A chapter related to judiciary in NCERT’s Class 8 Social Science book has created a big controversy. In this chapter, issues like corruption in the judicial system have been discussed.
According to government sources, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is extremely angry with this and is demanding action against those responsible. This issue has reached the Supreme Court, where the book has been banned.

NCERT has added a new section on Judiciary in its new textbook. Earlier editions focused only on the structure and role of the courts, but now challenges such as corruption and long caseloads have been included.
The book mentions 81,000 pending cases in the Supreme Court, 62 lakh in the High Court and more than 4.7 crore pending cases in the district courts. This raised questions on the image of the judiciary, causing an uproar.
Prime Minister’s tough stance
Sources said that PM Modi, who is currently in Israel, clearly said on this issue that "Who is taking care of all this?" His message is that accountability should be fixed for the people who included this chapter in NCERT.
The PM believes that such material can affect the dignity of the judiciary. This statement has reached the Education Ministry, where there is talk of investigation.
Education Minister’s regret
Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan expressed grief over this controversy. He said that the government fully respects the judiciary and there was no intention to include such material in the book. Speaking to reporters, Pradhan expressed regret and promised that the Supreme Court’s decision will be followed. He said, "We are looking at this matter seriously and I am deeply saddened by what happened."
Supreme Court’s strictness
The Supreme Court reacted sharply to this book. The bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant issued notice to the School Education Secretary of the Education Ministry and the NCERT Director. The court asked why contempt proceedings should not be initiated.
Also, a complete ban was imposed on the publication, printing and online sharing of the book. Orders were given to confiscate all copies of the book in India and abroad. The court said, "We have to find out who is behind this, the culprits will be punished."

The book quoted former Chief Justice BR Gavai’s statement of July 2025, in which he said that misconduct in the judiciary reduces public confidence. The chapter also talks about efforts to increase transparency through technology.
