Conspiracy to derail goods train

A small cylinder was found placed on the train track

Conspiracy: Another conspiracy to derail the JTTN goods train has come to light near Prempur station in Kanpur. A small cylinder was found kept on the train track, seeing which the loco pilot of the train immediately applied emergency brakes and stopped the train 10 feet before the cylinder. This incident happened around 6 am on Sunday. This conspiracy is the 22nd attempt to derail the train in 57 days. Earlier, on September 20, the railway track was tampered with in Surat, the investigation of which has now been handed over to the NIA. At the same time, the engine of a special train derailed on Saturday night in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, when it was moved forward without getting the signal. In view of the increasing incidents of derailment of trains in the country, the central government is preparing to amend the Railway Act. Under this, if someone conspires for a railway accident, then he can be punished with life imprisonment to death penalty on charges of treason. At present, under Section 151 of the Railway Act-1989, there is a provision of maximum 10 years of punishment for such crimes. In the new amendment, preparations are being made to bring it under the category of treason and make provision for strict punishment. The Railway Board is also considering installing cameras in sensitive areas and other measures for the security of trains.
