Continue taking strict action against fake firms, tax evasion and bogus billing: CM Yogi

Lucknow. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath today held a meeting with the administration, headquarters and field level officials of the state tax department and reviewed the status of revenue collection, tax administration and business facilities. The Chief Minister said that the State Tax Department will have to present a model of trust-based administration along with increasing revenue. Convenience, respect and quick resolution should be ensured to honest traders and unnecessary delays in GST registration, return filing, appeal disposal and refund processes should be eliminated.

The Chief Minister reviewed the work performance by directly communicating with zone-wise officials. He directed that senior officers should personally go to the field and communicate with the traders and a special action plan should be prepared for the low performing zones. It was told in the meeting that in the financial year 2025-26, the state received revenue of ₹ 1,15,977 crore under GST and VAT heads. ₹2,658 crore was recovered as GST dues and ₹2,071 crore was recovered through enforcement units. Also, Uttar Pradesh has become the state with the highest number of GST taxpayers in the country with 21.82 lakh active taxpayers.

Along with this, he directed to continue taking strict action against fake firms, tax evasion and bogus billing. He said that transparent and accountable tax administration should be ensured by using technology, data analytics and AI based analysis. It was told in the meeting that, in the year 2025-26, a total of 63,797 appeals of GST and VAT were disposed of. The Chief Minister gave instructions for timely disposal of pending appeals and said that the refund system should be made more prompt and transparent, so that the working capital of traders is not affected.
