Controversial statement of TMC leader, ‘If you don’t vote, you will have to leave the area’

The political atmosphere in West Bengal regarding the 2026 assembly elections is continuously heating up. Meanwhile, the statement of a young leader of the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) has created a new controversy. During an election meeting held in Mograhat area of South 24 Parganas district, TMC leader Imran Hasan Mollah used objectionable and threatening language against voters. The video of his statement is spreading rapidly on social media, due to which the political atmosphere has become more tense.

What did TMC leader Imran Hasan Mollah say?

Addressing the gathering, Mollah said in clear words that if people do not vote for TMC then they will not get the right to live in the area. He even said that it will be made difficult for those who will not support the party to live here. Making his statement more harsh, he warned that the condition of those protesting would be worsened. Along with this, while mentioning the schemes of the state government, especially the Laxmi Bhandar Scheme, he indicated that those who do not vote may have to be deprived of these facilities.

Referring to the 2021 assembly elections, the TMC leader said that at that time the party had allegedly ignored “mistakers”, but this will not happen in 2026. He told the supporters that if they want to stay in the area then they will have to stay with the party, otherwise they may have to leave along with their family. Such statements have raised serious questions on the free and fair voting process.

Sharp reaction from opposition parties

After this incident, opposition parties have given a sharp reaction. BJP leader Sajal Ghosh strongly criticized this statement and said that such leaders are against democratic values and the public will answer to them after the elections. He also claimed that in future such leaders themselves will have to flee their areas. It is noteworthy that even before this, some TMC leaders in Baharampur area have been accused of monitoring voters and keeping an eye on voting.

As the elections are approaching, the situation of political rhetoric, allegations and counter-allegations and tension is increasing in the state, due to which conducting fair elections seems to be a big challenge.
