Controversy over Chyawanprash advertisement in Dabur-Patanjali, can Ramdev be seen? Learn the whole matter
New Delhi: The petition filed by Dabur, a major consumer goods company, is being heard in the Delhi High Court. Dabur has fulfilled his arguments and will be presented by Patanjali on 27 January. The case is being heard by Justice Mini Pushkarana. Dabur's lawyer argued in the court that a high amount of mercury is found in Patanjali's Chyawanprash, while it is not given a suitable disclaimer about it, which is legally necessary. Dabur says that it can be harmful to children.
Court started hearing the case
Dabur has filed a petition in the High Court alleging that Patanjali Ayurved is running misleading advertisements for his Chyawanprash products and has sought an order from the court to stop it. When Dabur demanded a hearing in the case, the court had proposed to send it for mediation, but after Dabur's continuous request, the court started hearing the case. Dabur's senior advocate Akhil Sibal also said that Patanjali Ayurved is a regular law violation and is not following the orders of the Supreme Court. He cited the contempt petition filed against Patanjali earlier this year, stating that even before this, Baba Ramdev and Acharya Balakrishna had published apology in newspapers.
61.6% stake
Sibal also argued that all Chyawanprash should follow ancient Ayurvedic texts and specific formulations, ensuring that the products are high quality and do not create confusion for other competitive companies, especially for companies like Dabur The market holds 61.6% share.
High court stopped the advertisement from publishing the advertisement
At the root of the case, Dabur objected to an advertisement by Baba Ramdev, the founder of Patanjali Ayurveda. In this, Ramdev had said that those who do not have knowledge of Ayurveda and Vedas, they cannot make Chyawanprash properly. This can mean that only the Chyawanprash of Patanjali is real and pure, while other manufacturers do not know its tradition and their products are fake or simple. Significantly, in 2017, the Delhi High Court stopped Patanjali Ayurved from publishing such an advertisement of Chyawanprash.
