Controversy regarding Namaz in government building in Joshimath, administration took charge of the situation
Recently a dispute arose in Joshimath regarding the use of a government building, after which a situation of tension was created in the area. It is alleged that some people of the Muslim community started offering collective namaz inside a government building without formal permission. Local residents say that this building was handed over to the sports department by the municipality and there were plans to develop a facility for sports activities like table tennis.

It is being told that for the last few days this complex was being used for Namaz and the number of people coming there was gradually increasing. Some videos related to this incident were also shared on social media, after which the matter became more discussed.
Local people have objected to the religious use of government property. He says that this place was earmarked for sports activities and the municipality had already clarified that the building should not be used for any kind of religious activity. Some residents also said that use of government land or buildings for religious purposes is against the rules and should be stopped.
Hindu organizations submitted memorandum to the administration
Some Hindu organizations of the area have also submitted a memorandum to the administration on this issue. He demanded that government property should be used only for the purpose for which it has been earmarked. Local people indicated that they will continue their objection on this issue and are expecting clear action from the administration.
Responding to the matter, Garhwal Division Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey said that the situation is now under control. According to him, necessary steps have been taken on the memorandum submitted to the administration and talks have been held with the concerned parties to resolve the dispute.
Joshimath is also known as Jyotirmath. It is an important hill town of Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. It holds special importance from religious and historical point of view. Jyotirmath located here was founded by Adi Shankaracharya and is considered one of his four major monasteries. This city is also known as the winter migration destination of the famous Badrinath temple.
