Court quashes plea as brother refuses contact with Celina Jaitly

The Delhi High Court has dismissed a plea filed by actor Celina Jaitly, who had asked for help to meet her detained brother, Vikrant Jaitly, in the United Arab Emirates.

Hearing the case on 16 March, Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav said the petition could not continue after being told that Vikrant did not wish to communicate with his sister.

Instead, he preferred to take decisions only after consulting his wife, Charul Jaitly.

According to court submissions, Vikrant had already been granted consular access but declined legal help.

A law firm had also offered to represent him free of charge, but he refused that too. The court noted he had “unequivocally stated that he is not willing to be represented by any of the law firms.”

The 44-year-old actress had also asked for support in covering legal costs and for direct contact with her brother, both of which did not move forward after his refusal.

Vikrant’s wife requested that details of the case not be made public. The court said authorities will remain in touch with him and offer help as per law.

Closing the case, the bench said, “In view of the facts and developments, there is no reason to keep this petition pending, disposed of.”

Major (Retd.) Vikrant Jaitly has been detained in the UAE since September 2024, in a case Indian media link to alleged national security concerns, though no formal charges have been publicly detailed.
