Court stays proceedings against cricketer Robin Uthappa in check bounce case

Mumbai . A sessions court in Mumbai has temporarily stayed the magistrate court proceedings against former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa in the 2019 check bounce case. The court said that it appeared that he was not in charge of the day-to-day functioning of the company involved in the case.

In 2019, private firm 'Senior Marketing Pvt Ltd' had filed a complaint before a magistrate court in Mumbai against another company 'Centaurus Lifestyle' and its directors, including Uthappa, in connection with a 'post dated cheque' which was drawn in the amount of 'substantial It was bounced due to “non availability”. Subsequently, Lower initiated proceedings against Centaurus Lifestyle and its directors.

The Additional Sessions Judge, in an order on Thursday, said prima facie it appeared that Uthappa was not in charge of the day-to-day affairs of the accused company (Centaurus Lifestyle) when the check bounced.

The judge then stayed the trial court proceedings against the 38-year-old cricketer till January 4, 2025, as his petition challenging the magistrate's order is yet to be heard.
