Court’s big hammer on ‘Volume 1’, the song will completely disappear from the internet

In an important decision, the Delhi High Court has directed the Central Government, social media platforms and music streaming services to remove the popular but controversial song ‘Volume 1’ of rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh and Badshah from every platform. During the hearing on Thursday, the bench of Justice Purushendra Kumar Kaurav clearly said that this song should be completely blocked and no part of it, whether audio, video, clip or lyrics, should be available anywhere online.

What did the court say in the order?

The court also made it clear in its order that even partial presence of the song is not acceptable. The court said that even a small part of this song being seen or heard on social media or any digital platform will not be tolerated. The court termed the lyrics of the song as extremely objectionable and inhuman and said that it has used language that insults women and has presented them only as objects of enjoyment, which gives a wrong message to the society.

This matter came to light after a petition filed by Hindu Shakti Dal, in which there was a demand to completely remove this song from platforms like YouTube, Google and Spotify. The petitioner’s argument was that the lyrics of the song promote wrong thinking in the society and create a disrespectful attitude towards women.

During the hearing, the court itself heard the song and commented that this was a rare situation where the content of a song was so objectionable that it shocked the conscience of the court. On this basis, the court took a strict stance and ordered a complete ban.

Old track from the 2000s ‘Volume 1’

It is worth noting that ‘Volume 1’ is an old track from the 2000s, which was in controversies since its release. There had been protests many times in the past regarding its lyrics. Recently, this matter came into discussion again after Honey Singh sang some lines of this song during a concert, after which legal action on it intensified.

The court also indicated that the next hearing of this case will be on May 7, 2026. At present, after this order, it has become mandatory for all the concerned platforms to completely remove this song and ensure that it is not available in any form in future also.
