Cricket Australia unveils 2026/27 schedule; India to host Australia for Border-Gavaskar Trophy

Cricket Australia released its 2026-27 international schedule on Sunday, revealing a gruelling itinerary ahead of the highly anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy in India, likely to start in mid or late January. The five-Test series in India will be a crucial phase for Pat Cummins’ experienced squad, which will face a packed program. Between December and March, Australia are set to play ten Tests in just fourteen weeks, marking one of the most intense periods in the team’s history.

The 2026-27 Australian home campaign begins in August with two Tests versus Bangladesh and culminates in March 2027 with a milestone day-night 150th anniversary Test against England at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Australia’s home series against New Zealand is scheduled within a tight four-week window, while the tour of South Africa extends until late October, followed by an eight-match limited-overs series against England in November.

“That Border-Gavaskar Trophy tour will be a last chance for players like Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Steve Smith, and Nathan Lyon, who have yet to win a series in India, especially with Cricket Australia’s anniversary Test scheduled in Melbourne on March 11,” CA said in a statement.

Cricket Australia will rest Starc, Cummins, and Hazlewood for the opening matches of IPL 2026, prioritizing their workload management ahead of a demanding 2026-27 international schedule.

“CA’s decision to rest Starc, Cummins, and Hazlewood for at least the opening matches of the upcoming IPL reflects their caution in managing the trio through the demanding 2026-27 schedule,” the statement added.
