New Delhi: Cricketers Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree Verma have got divorced. Bandra Family Court has approved the divorce petition of both of them. Yuzvendra Chahal’s lawyer Nitin Gupta said that both of them are married. The court has accepted the divorce application and now both of them are divorced. The Bombay High Court on Wednesday accepted the apology plea of cricketers Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree Verma during the cooling-off period. Justice Madhav Jamdar’s bench had directed the family court on Thursday to take a decision on the divorce petition, keeping in mind Chahal’s participation in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL). This leg-spinner was bought by Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the IPL 2025 tournament for Rs 18 crore.
The Bench took note of the fact that the parties had been living separately for two and a half years and had properly followed the terms and conditions agreed upon regarding payment of maintenance during the mediation process. Let us tell you that if the husband and wife have been living separately for a year or more, then they can apply for a divorce order with mutual consent. However, under Section 13B(2) of the Hindu Marriage Act, a statutory cooling off period of at least 6 months from the date of presentation of the divorce petition is provided to explore possibilities of reconciliation and reunion between the couple.
In a landmark judgment in 2017, the Supreme Court held that a cooling-off period of 6 months is not mandatory and can waive this condition if the court believes that there is no possibility of reunification of the parties. Dhanashree and Chahale got engaged in 2020 and got married in a private ceremony in Gurugram in December the same year. 28 year old dancer, Dhanashree is known for her fusion dance performances. Recently, during the Champions Trophy final, Chahal was seen among the spectators sitting next to social media star RJ Mahwash. However, this was not the first time that the two were linked to each other. In December last year, a photo of RJ Mahwash with the cricketer from the Christmas celebration went viral.
