Four youths gang-raped a 12th class student in Saran district of Bihar. On Friday, the police arrested an accused within 24 hours of the incident. Saran Superintendent of Police Kumar Ashish said that the victim reached the police station on Thursday and lodged a complaint at Bhagwan Bazar police station accusing four people of playing with her dignity.
The victim told the police that she came in contact with one of the accused through social media. On January 16, when she was returning from school in Baniyapur by bus, her social media friend called her. At the request of her lover, she got down from the bus and met him. Later they reached near a college, where his three friends were waiting. Taking advantage of the opportunity, the four accused raped her one by one.
Due to it being a deserted place, his screams went unheard. Later the victim reached Bhagwan Bazar police station and lodged a formal complaint against the accused. SP Kumar Ashish said that the girl has been sent to Chapra Sadar Hospital for medical examination.
The forensic team also visited the spot and collected evidence to corroborate the victim's statement. The SP said that a special team has been formed to raid the suspected hideouts of three other accused who absconded after the incident. “He will be punished as soon as possible,” he told the media. The rape victim became scared after the incident as the accused threatened her with dire consequences if she reported the incident to the police. “I somehow gathered courage and told the entire incident to the investigating officer,” he said.
