Criminal cases against half of Bengal MLAs; Report issued by ADR
Kolkata : According to a report by ‘Association for Democratic Reforms’ and ‘West Bengal Election Watch’, BengalHalf of the MLAs have declared that criminal cases have been filed against them. More than half of the MLAs are crorepatis (multi-millionaires). The report analyzes the criminal, financial and other backgrounds of 291 of the state’s 294 current MLAs; There are currently three vacancies.
According to the ADR report, 136 MLAs (about 47%) have disclosed information about criminal cases filed against them. Of these, 109 MLAs (about 37%) are facing serious criminal charges. Moreover, eight MLAs have declared cases related to murder.
Criminal cases against 41 percent Trinamool MLAs
According to party-wise figures, 92 out of 223 Trinamool Congress MLAs (41%) and 42 out of 64 BJP MLAs (66%) have declared criminal cases in their affidavits. Regarding financial status, the report states that out of 291 MLAs, 152 MLAs (52%) are millionaires. The total declared assets of all MLAs is Rs 821.50 crore.
63 percent MLA graduates
In terms of educational qualifications, 182 MLAs are graduates or have obtained higher degrees; While the educational background of 104 MLAs is between 8th to 12th standard. This report is prepared on the basis of affidavits filed during the 2021 Bengal Assembly elections and subsequent by-elections.
Eknath Shinde on Delhi tour
