Cristiano Ronaldo hails Vinicius Junior for FIFA Men's Player 2024
Cristiano Ronaldo congratulates Vinicius Jr, following his win in the FIFA Men’s Player 2024. He also talked about the battle the player faces against racism but his resilience on and off the field.
Cristiano Ronaldo congratulated Vinicius Jr for winning the FIFA Men’s Player 2024, following his impressive performances in the season. He won the award in the FIFA Awards, which took place in Doha, Qatar, among various other star-studded football players in the list. Talking about him, Ronaldo said that he is a“symbol of resistance and resilience”.
During the 2023-24 season, he was a part of the team in 39 games where he scored 24 goals. Even in the tournament finals, he scored the second goal for the team, allowing Real Madrid to win their 15th UEFA Champions League title.
Cristiano Ronaldo took to Instagram to congratulate Vinicius Jr, saying“It has been 16 years since the last time the trophy for the best player in the world came to Brazil. Now deservedly in Vini’s hands, it means much more than his decisive role in the games and the extraordinary numbers in the 2023/24 season. His talent would be enough to win the award, but his power goes far beyond the field.”
Ronaldo also talked about the battle Vinicius Jr faced against racism, saying,“We are talking about one of the most valuable players today, a victim of televised racism with inconceivable frequency. How many anonymous Viniciuses does he represent? How many victims spread all over the place? A symbol of resistance and resilience, today Vini also leads the anti-racist struggle in world football, where impunity is as pernicious as the attacks. And those who remain silent are no less racist. The omission – especially by entities and authorities that have the legal power to confront and punish such practices – further reinforces the culture of erasure and disrespect towards black people.”
