Cristiano Ronaldo leads Portugal to victory, Ghana holds England to a draw

Star striker Cristiano Ronaldo bounced back from a disappointing start to his sixth World Cup appearance and scored a record two goals as Portugal thrashed Uzbekistan 5-0. Ronaldo was not able to do much in the opening match which was a 1-1 draw against Congo but he was in his full glory against Uzbekistan. He has become the first player in the world to score goals in six different World Cups. Portugal now has four points in Group K. It will play its final group match against Colombia in Miami on Saturday. Uzbekistan will face Congo on the same day in Atlanta.

Ronaldo made this record

After a disappointing performance in the match against Congo, some critics raised questions about whether Ronaldo should be retained in the starting lineup, but coach Roberto Martínez kept faith in the superstar. His decision proved correct and Ronaldo gave the team a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute itself. Ronaldo added another goal in the 39th minute when he fired a right-footed strike from just inside the near post after receiving a pass from Bruno Fernandes to make it 3–0.

 

Nuno Mendes made it 2-0 with a free kick in the 17th minute. Portugal took a 4-0 lead in the 60th minute thanks to an own goal by Abduvohid Nematov. After this, Rafael Leao, who entered the field in the 83rd minute, scored a goal after four minutes and made the score 5-0. Uzbekistan midfielder Azizjon Ganiev had a goal in the 30th minute but it was ruled out after video review.

Ghana stopped England

The match played between England and Ghana ended in a goalless draw. Both England and Ghana tried their best to score a goal in the last moments of the match but neither was successful. With this match being a goalless draw, the Group-L situation has become exciting. Both England and Ghana teams now have four points each. England is on top due to better goal difference. Croatia has three points and is in third place. England maintained its dominance in the match. He took 19 shots on goal while Ghana managed to do so only once. However, the England team could not take advantage of the opportunities. England has not lost to any African country in any World Cup.
