In Uruguay’s opening 1-1 draw against Saudi Arabia, the veteran goalkeeper failed to handle a ball, allowing Abdullah Al-Malki to open the scoring. In the second match, he rushed out of his box and allowed Helio Varela to roll the ball into an empty net, securing a 2-2 equalizer for Cape Verde.
When Uruguay needed at least a point in their final group match to keep their knockout hopes alive, Muslera spilled Alex Baena’s shot into his own net, sealing a 1-0 win for Spain and sending his team home early.
