‘Critical’ situation in Connaught Place due to CJP protest: Order to close shops and restaurants at 6:30 pm only – ..


The most important commercial and tourist hub of the country’s capital Delhi. Connaught Place It came to a complete halt as evening approached on Thursday. In view of the deteriorating situation in Connaught Place and surrounding areas due to the protests and ‘Parliament March’ led by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), the New Delhi Traders Association (NDTA) has issued an advisory with strict instructions for complete closure of all shops, private offices and restaurants by 6:30 pm. This sudden order has created panic among the businessmen and common people of Delhi. Let us understand from the perspective of a ground and crime reporter why this emergency situation arose in Connaught Place, the heart of the capital.

Emergency advisory issued on instructions of NDMC

According to Atul Bhargava, president of the New Delhi Traders Association (NDTA), the decision was taken after verbal and telephonic instructions received from the chairperson and vice-chairperson of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC).

  • Strict security arrangements: It is clearly stated in the advisory that around Connaught Place ‘Critical Situation’ Has been made.

  • Rescue and property protection: This step has been taken as a precautionary measure to avoid any untoward incident, stampede, safety of employees and customers and damage to shops and properties.

CJP protest and tense situation at Jantar Mantar

A huge gathering of Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) workers and youth was seen at Jantar Mantar and Outer Circle of Connaught Place over issues like NEET paper leak and education accountability.

Delhi Police has invoked Section 163 (BNSS) to handle the crowd of thousands of protesters. Traffic has been diverted at many places as police evacuated the area and tightened security, while the gates of nearby metro stations have also been kept closed as a precautionary measure.

Politics has also heated up over the sudden shutdown of Connaught Place and deployment of heavy police force. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal, while sharing this advisory of NDTA on social media platform X, made a direct attack on the central government.

He wrote that a tight security cordon has been created with orders to close shops at 6:30 pm and queues of ambulances. He raised the question whether the government is once again going to use force against the students protesting at Jantar Mantar? At present, heavy police and paramilitary forces are deployed at Connaught Place and full cooperation has been appealed to the traders till the situation becomes normal.
