Cross voting creates political storm in Haryana Rajya Sabha elections, action decided against 5 Congress MLAs

Tezzbuzz Desk – After the Rajya Sabha elections in Haryana, a big political controversy has arisen in the Congress party. The party has announced initiation of disciplinary action against five of its MLAs for alleged cross-voting during the elections.

In this tightly contested election, BJP candidate Sanjay Bhatia and Congress’s Karamvir Singh Badh were declared winners late on Monday night.

Congress leader Ramkishan Gurjar resigned

Amidst this entire incident, Ram Kishan Gurjar, one of the working presidents of Haryana Congress, resigned from the primary membership of the party. He has also given up all his posts and responsibilities.

It is being told that the name of his wife and Congress MLA Shaili Chaudhary has also appeared among the MLAs who did cross voting. Shaili Chaudhary is an MLA from Narayangarh assembly seat of Ambala district.

During the Rajya Sabha elections, Shaili Chaudhary was seen outside the Assembly with Tarun Bhandari, political secretary of Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini. After this, many types of discussions started in political circles.

According to sources, Shaili Chaudhary may also resign, although she is currently waiting for the decision of the party high command.

Preparation for Congress action

Opposition leader and former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has confirmed that the party has started the process of taking action in the case of cross voting. He said that the names of the MLAs who are under suspicion have been handed over to the party leadership and action will be taken soon.

General Secretary in-charge of Haryana Congress BK Hariprasad said that first show-cause notice will be issued to the concerned MLAs. Further action will be decided based on their response.

The election was a close contest

Many dramatic incidents also took place in this election held in the 90-member Haryana Assembly. Two MLAs of the Indian National Lok Dal abstained from voting, while four votes of the Congress were declared invalid. The vote of a BJP MLA was also canceled due to violation of confidentiality rules.

Of the total 83 valid votes, BJP candidate Sanjay Bhatia got 39 first preference votes, while Congress’s Karamveer Singh Boudh got 28 votes. BJP-backed independent candidate Satish Nandal got 16 votes.

Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini said that independent candidate Satish Nandal lost by just one vote, which made the contest very exciting.
