Crypto-Bitcoin scam in Gorakhpur: Mastermind of loot worth lakhs arrested

gorakhpur02 March 2026 – Big revelation of the interstate gang that scammed people worth crores by luring people in the name of crypto and bitcoin! Gorakhpur Police arrested two dangerous accused within just a few hours. A laptop and two mobile phones were recovered from them. The accused had embezzled money from hundreds of innocent people by running illegal deposit schemes.
On the strict instructions of Senior Superintendent of Police Gorakhpur Dr Kaustubh, the team of Sub Inspector Ashutosh Kumar Rai under the leadership of Superintendent of Police City, Area Officer Cantt and Police Station Head Nitin Raghunath Srivastava, Ramgarhtal police station conducted the raid. The team caught Sanjeev Kumar Kushwaha (son late Brij Kishore Kushwaha), resident of village Bahorwa, police station Khampar, Deoria, and Ankit Srivastava (son Sanjay Srivastava), resident of village Banshaiya, police station Gauri Bazar, Deoria red handed.
Accused Sanjeev Kumar Kushwaha, along with his associates, used to deceive people through social media and WhatsApp groups by saying “invest in Bitcoin, you will get 300-500% returns”. Once the money was deposited, the accused would disappear. Many victims had already lost lakhs of rupees. This was a completely illegal deposit scheme, under which case number 126/2026 has been registered in Ramgarhtal police station. Action is being taken against the accused under sections 318(4), 111(2)(b), 61(2) of the Indian Justice Code and section 3/21(2) of the Unregulated Deposit Schemes Ban Act 2019.
The criminal history of Sanjeev Kumar Kushwaha is very horrifying. A case of murder (section 302), criminal conspiracy (120B) and Gangster Act is already registered against him in 2022 in Khampar police station of Deoria. The second accused Ankit Srivastava was also wanted in Gorakhpur Cantt police station in serious cases like fraud, assault and kidnapping.
The police team included Sub Inspector Upendra Nirmal, Head Constable Hridesh Kumar Singh and Constable Brijesh Chauhan.
Senior Superintendent of Police said, “We have a zero tolerance policy on such scams taking place in the name of crypto. The victims are appealed to come to the police station immediately.” This arrest is a big relief for thousands of youth who nowadays lose their life savings due to online investment. This campaign of Gorakhpur Police proves that no matter where the criminals are hiding, they are no longer safe!
