Chennai Super Kings Lose Two in A Row

CSK vs PBKS Highlights: Chennai Super Kings have started their IPL 2026 campaign with two losses in a row as they were beaten by the Punjab Kings comfortably, despite making over 200 runs.

Today’s CSK vs PBKS game was Match 7 of the 2026 Indian Premier League. The match was played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai and saw the away team win the toss and decide to bowl first on a pitch that looked quite balanced.

The Super Kings did not get off to a decent start to their innings, as Sanju Samson, playing only his second game in yellow, was dismissed in the second over after making a run-a-ball seven, caught behind.

Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, remembering his team’s humiliating performance in the previous game, locked down on the pitch, allowing for young Ayush Mhatre to keep the run rate at a respectable level.

At the end of the powerplay, the team score was 57/1, mostly thanks to Mhatre, who was batting at 29 off 19 at this point.

The skipper played a supporting role for the most part. By the time he was dismissed in the 12th over, he had played 22 balls and made only 28 runs. On the other hand, Mhatre had reached his 50 in the ninth over in just 29 balls, dismissed by Yuzvendra Chahal.

Soon after Shivam Dube came in to bat at No. 4, Mhatre was dismissed for 73 off 43 by Vijaykumar Vyshak. Dube then had to take charge of keeping the run rate high, seeing that Kartik Sharma departed for one of three.

In 14 overs, CSK was at 130.4 with Dube and Sarfaraz Khan on strike. The team needed an immediate injection of runs, which the two provided.

Khan immediately started hitting boundaries, while Dube took his time to settle in. Sarfaraz’s wicket fell in the 17th over, by which time he had made 32 in just 12 balls. Meanwhile, Shivam Dube was batting at 14 with a strike rate of 100 at this point.

Dube quickly took up the mantle of scoring boundaries. By the time the innings ended, he had made 45 off 27 and took his team to a respectable score of 209/5.

The Punjab Kings innings, in quite the opposite fashion, started with a flash. Priyansh Arya, by the end of the second over, had already made 26 runs off seven balls. The youngster scored 39 off 11 before losing his wicket to Matt Henry in the fifth over.

The score at the end of the powerplay was 68/1. Prabhsimran Singh played an anchor role for the first portion of this inning. He made 43 off 24 before he was run out in the ninth over.

Cooper Connolly, Punjab’s hero from the previous game, made some decent runs, 36 off 22, before getting out in the 12th over. At the end of the 12th, the score was 127/3 with Shreyas Iyer and Nehal Wadhera on strike. It was a perfect situation for the skipper to win this match for his team.

That is exactly what he did, going on to make a 50 in 26 balls, before losing his wicket at the end of the 17th over. Wadhera got out soon after for 10 off nine.

The match was put to an end by the pair of Marcus Stoinis and Shashank Singh, making nine and 14 runs with a strike rate of over 300 and 200, respectively.

The Punjab Kings won this PBKS vs CSK match by five wickets, with eight balls left. With this chase, they now also have the most successful 200+ in IPL history. For the massive impact he made early in the chase, Priyansh Arya was named the Player of the Match.

With this win, Punjab shoots to the top of the IPL 2026 table, the only team with two wins at the moment. On the other hand, with two losses, the Chennai Super Kings are at the bottom of the points table.
