The demand for electric cars is steadily increasing in the Indian market. In this too, consumers are more supportive of electric cars with robust safety features and better range. However, this response is not the same for every car!

Despite strong demand for electric cars Kia EV9 Consumers have been left in the lurch. Many have wondered why this car was a flop despite being equipped with a 360 degree camera, ADAS and a range of 561 km.

The EV9 is the most powerful electric SUV in Kia India’s portfolio. The company had launched it in October 2024. However, its sales have been very low. Only 1 unit of this electric car was sold last month i.e. November. A major reason for low sales could be its expensive price. Its ex-showroom price starts at Rs 1.3 crore. It is only available in the fully loaded GT-Line variant. The EV9 is brought to India via the CBU route. It has an ARAI-certified range of 561 km on a full charge.

Features of the Kia EV9

The Kia EV9 has a 99.8kWh battery pack that powers dual electric motors for all-wheel drive. Both the electric motors produce a combined 384hp and 700Nm of peak torque, allowing the SUV to accelerate from 0-100kph in 5.3 seconds. The car’s battery can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in 24 minutes using a 350kW DC fast charger.

The EV9 features six seats. The second row has captain seats with electric adjustment, massage function and adjustable leg support. Other features include a 12.3-inch touchscreen, a large instrument cluster, three-zone climate control, dual electric sunroof, head-up display, digital inside rearview mirror, vehicle-to-load functionality, 14-speaker Meridian audio system, digital key, OTA updates, the latest version of Kia Connect connected-car technology and more.

This SUV also pays attention to the safety of the passengers. It is equipped with 10 airbags, ESC, downhill brake control, vehicle stability management, front, rear and rear parking sensors, all-wheel disc brakes, 360-degree camera and level 2 ADAS features such as forward collision warning and avoidance assist, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, high beam assist and lane keep assist.
