Customs caught ganja worth Rs 14 crore at Delhi's IGI airport, five arrested
Customs' Air Intelligence Unit caught two major smugglers of illegal drugs at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport. They recovered marijuana (ganja) worth about 13.89 kg (about Rs 14 crore). Custom Air Intelligence Unit has arrested five foreign smugglers. Delhi Customs said that two Indian passengers who arrived in Delhi from Phuket on November 18 were sent to Green Channel for investigation on the basis of route profiling. 9.946 kg of green colored suspected drug in 20 polythene packets was found in three of his trolley bags.

The ganja was cleverly hidden in the trolley bag. When tested using a detection kit on the spot, it was found to be marijuana or the intoxicant ganja. After a case was registered under the NDPS Act, customs officials seized the recovered ganja and arrested both the air passengers. The value of the recovered ganja is said to be Rs 9.94 crore.

In another case, three Indian passengers who arrived in New Delhi from Bangkok on November 20, 2024, were sent to Green Channel for investigation on the basis of suspicion. During examination of his luggage, green colored suspected narcotic substance was also found. In whose investigation, ganja was found, whose weight was 4.449 kg and its value was approximately Rs 4.45 crore. All three air passengers have been arrested by the customs team.
In both the cases, a case has been registered against the arrested passengers under the NDPS Act, 1985, which is still under investigation.
