‘Cut 2 crores…’ Why did Ashwin ask to use scissors on Cameron Green’s pocket?

Before the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) is troubled by injuries to its fast bowlers. Akash Deep and Harshit Rana have been ruled out of the entire season due to injuries, while Mathisha Pathirana will not be available for the initial matches. In such a situation, KKR has now increased its expectations from Australian all-rounder Cameron Green, for whom this franchise had bid Rs 25.20 crore in the IPL 2026 mini auction.

Seeing Green’s all-round ability, KKR bought him for this amount, which is the biggest bid for a foreign player in IPL history. However, it is unlikely that Green will meet KKR’s expectations as discussions are ongoing over his workload management. On this matter, former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin says that if Green does not bowl full 4 overs in the match, then Rs 2 crore should be deducted.

Bowled 3 overs in T20 World Cup

Cameron Green was out for a long time due to injury. Since his return, Cricket Australia has been managing his workload. Green recently scored only 24 runs in 3 innings in the T20 World Cup 2026 and bowled 3 overs. Earlier, he had bowled 4 overs in the T20 series against Pakistan. On managing the workload during the IPL, Ashwin said that franchises should have the right to take a salary cut if the player is not performing the role for which they have bought him.

Ashwin said on his YouTube channel, ‘If he bowls only 2 overs, then Rs 2 crore should be deducted. IPL teams should get this facility. If he is unable to bowl his 4 overs, you should have the right to deduct the amount. When you come to the IPL auction, the expectation is that you will bowl the full 4 overs and bat as well. If there is any restriction on bowling, then it is fine but if there is not then the team should have the right to deduct the money.

Ashwin further said, ‘Imagine you are Shahrukh Khan and you have bought a player for Rs 25 crore but he comes and says, Sir, I will bowl only one over a day, how will you feel?’
